Setting the benchmark for smart water in Cyprus

Paphos District Local Government Organisation - Water Supply Department

From smart metering to connected services

IANIC digitally transformed water metering in Paphos through a large-scale smart water network, connecting 27,000 smart water meters through a fixed LoRaWAN infrastructure. The project brings meter data into SmartVille, providing the organization with a unified digital environment for monitoring consumption and managing its water services.

The solution also extends to citizens through My SmartVille web and mobile application, giving consumers direct access to their water consumption, usage insights and alerts for leaks, abnormal usage and meter issues, thus creating a more transparent and connected water service.

The solutions

The integrated applications, modules and services supporting daily operations.

The central platform that brings together data from smart meters, sensors, SCADA systems and connected infrastructure, providing a unified operational view of the water network. Built on IANIC’s own Big Data infrastructure, it enables advanced analytics, real-time KPIs, alerts and forecasting across the collected data.

It provides citizens with direct access to their water consumption, usage insights, bills, alerts and service information through a dedicated web and mobile application.

It manages meter reading data across smart and legacy meters, supports custom drive-by reading processes and monitors the communication infrastructure supporting connected meter reading operations, with visibility into gateways, repeaters, connectivity and network coverage.

It provides a digital representation of the water network, including pipes, assets and infrastructure, supporting network visualisation, asset management and network design.

It supports hydraulic modelling and analysis of the water distribution network, helping utilities assess network behaviour in various conditions and support planning and operational decisions.

It supports the planning, assignment and tracking of water meter installation and inspection activities, providing field teams with the information and tools needed to manage meter-related work efficiently and maintain accurate records of field activities.

It supports the monitoring and analysis of water volumes across the network, helping identify differences between supplied and consumed water, calculate and monitor Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and assess potential physical and commercial losses.

It provides a centralised view of network infrastructure, stations and connected devices, supporting the monitoring and control of pressure, water supply, water quality and other operational parameters.
