IoT & AI for Intelligent Water Management

IANIC Core is an IoT and AI platform that brings together data from smart meters, sensors, telemetry devices, SCADA systems and other operational sources into a unified digital environment.

It enables water utilities to monitor infrastructure, manage meter data, analyse consumption and network performance, detect anomalies, optimise operations and turn real-time and historical data into actionable insights.

From individual meters to the wider water network, IANIC Core provides the tools to understand what is happening, identify what needs attention and support better operational decisions.

A complete view of water operations

IANIC Core collects and manages large volumes of data from connected devices and external systems, providing a centralised view of the information generated across the utility.

The platform monitors connected data sources and the health of the underlying data infrastructure, including ingestion services, storage, communication and system activity. This gives users visibility not only into their operational data, but also into the systems responsible for delivering it.

IANIC Core provides centralised management of smart water meter data, from readings and consumption information to connectivity, device status and hardware alerts.

Users can access meter statistics, consumption insights, readings and alerts through dashboards, maps and lists, while each meter maintains a complete, consistent view of its information and operational history.

This creates a reliable foundation for monitoring meter performance and managing large-scale smart metering deployments.

The platform provides live visibility into water network operations through SCADA monitoring and operational dashboards.

Users can monitor flow and pressure measurements, pumping stations, reservoir levels, DMAs, alarms and operational statuses, while remote control interfaces support actions such as pump start/stop, operating mode changes and valve control.

Interactive operational schematics bring hydraulic infrastructure, live measurements and relationships between network assets together in a single view.

Turning data into action

IANIC Core combines data from smart meters, flow and pressure sensors, acoustic equipment and data loggers to identify abnormal water behaviour and support leak detection.

Its analytics capabilities can detect anomalies, analyse night flows, correlate information from multiple sensors and estimate potential leak locations. Detected events can be prioritised according to their severity and impact, helping utilities focus inspections and maintenance where they matter most.

The platform provides tools for understanding and managing water losses across the network.

Water balance analysis compares system input with billed consumption, while loss classification helps distinguish between real losses, such as leaks and bursts, and apparent losses, such as meter inaccuracies or data errors.

Losses can be analysed by DMA or pressure zone and monitored over time, with flow, pressure and consumption data providing additional context for identifying high-impact areas and prioritising interventions.

IANIC Core uses live operational data to analyse pump performance and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.

Its B.E.U.P. (Best Electricity Use Point) methodology determines the optimal operating point of pumps by considering factors such as hydraulic losses, motor efficiency and equipment condition.

The platform can support dynamic operating decisions, performance benchmarking and energy-saving scenarios, using SCADA data, hydraulic models, demand patterns and network conditions to guide more efficient pump operation.

IANIC Core enables continuous monitoring of water quality parameters such as chlorine, turbidity, pH, conductivity and temperature.

Measurements can be compared against regulatory limits and operational thresholds, while anomaly detection identifies abnormal values and sudden changes that may indicate contamination risks or treatment issues.

Water quality conditions can be viewed across zones, reservoirs and pipelines, with alerts and event histories supporting faster response and reporting.

Intelligence built into operations

IANIC Core includes a configurable rules engine that continuously evaluates data and generates alerts when predefined conditions are met.

Rules can be applied to smart meters, DMAs, flow and pressure monitoring devices and other network data. Notifications can be delivered through platform alerts and email, allowing relevant teams to respond quickly to events.

The rules engine can also support consumer-facing notifications through My SmartVille, connecting operational events with timely communication.

IANIC Core uses machine learning to extract additional intelligence from the data generated across the water network.

Meter profiling analyses consumption patterns, seasonality and meter characteristics to categorise consumers and better understand consumption behaviour.

Consumption forecasting can estimate future consumption for individual meters or across an entire meter population, providing utilities with additional insight for planning and operational decision-making.

AI and analytics can also support anomaly detection and the identification of patterns that may otherwise be difficult to detect across large volumes of operational data.

IANIC Core can integrate financial and customer information through APIs, bringing consumer, billing and payment data into the operational environment.

Users can access information such as bills, payments, settlements, billing-period balances and daily collections, while the Consumer Portal provides tools for managing customer information, billing history, payment history, reports and online applications.

This connection between operational and financial information gives utilities a broader view of their activities and the customers they serve.

IANIC Core provides reporting tools across the entities managed by the platform, including meters, readings, DMAs and alerts.

Users can create custom reports according to their permissions and extract information in commonly used formats such as CSV, Excel and PDF.

By bringing operational data, analytics and reporting together, the platform turns complex information into accessible insights for everyday decision-making.
